On our 8 days Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari, visitors have opportunities of exploring Rwanda’s top three National Parks (Akagera, Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Park) and conclude with unwinding on the shores of Lake Kivu.
A perfect holiday package and expect to see mountain gorillas, Masai giraffes, Chimpanzees, bushbucks, vervet monkeys, warthogs, lions, Rhinos, blue monkeys, olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, zebras, Kobs, buffaloes, Defassa waterbucks, elephants, common elands, buffaloes, Topis, black and white colobus monkeys and many others.
Day 1: Arrival into the country (Rwanda) through Kigali International Airport and drive to Akagera National Park.
Welcome to the beautiful and serene land of a thousand Hills. Our safari driver will be at the Airport on-time to pick you up for a drive to Akagera National Park in the east of Kigali. Arrival in the morning means undertaking a city tour before transfer but in the afternoon you will straight away drive to the Park, where meals and overnight stay will be catered for.
Day 2: Entire day to explore the hidden treasures of Akagera National Park.
Situated in the East of Rwanda and covering 1122 square Kilometers is the magnificent Akagera National Park, the country’s only savannah Park and home to the big five Animals.
Sunrise in this savannah National Park is the most beautiful moment during your Rwanda safari but the morning game drive starts even before sunrise. Have breakfast and set off for the drive where zebras, elephants, Kobs, Hippos, Defassa waterbucks, buffaloes, common elands, Topis, Masai giraffes and olive baboons as well as the recently introduced Rhinos and lions can be encountered. This game drive will last about 3-4 hours and be followed by lunch at the lodge.
Your afternoon will be blessed with views of Crocodiles and Hippos that will be spotted during the boat ride on Lake Ihema, but don’t also forget the elephants, Kobs and waterbucks that occasionally visit the shores of the Lake to drink water or cool their bodies. After this marvelous time, return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park.
With memories of the game drive and boat ride still fresh in your mind, your time in Akagera National Park has however come to an end. Therefore leave for the next destination (Nyungwe Forest National Park) after breakfast.
En-route lunch within Huye and short tour around the Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda and arrive Nyungwe in the evening.
Day 4: Trekking Chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park and the canopy walk.
Trekking the isolated communities of Chimpanzees within the jungles of Nyungwe Forest National Park starts with breakfast and transfer to the Visitor Center with packed Lunch and trekking gear. Attend briefing where information on guidelines of trekking, probable length of the trek and what to expect while trekking is provided. This Forest is home to more than 12 primate species including Chimpanzees (the highlight of this day) as well as grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys and L’Hoests monkeys.
Enjoy your packed Lunch after spending time with the chimpanzees and be transferred to Uwinka Visitor Center for the start of the canopy walk. This increases chances of encountering the Park’s primates, birds, butterflies and many others. Leave the forest and return to your place of stay for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Journey to Volcanoes National Park, north-western Rwanda.
After a hectic, busy and unforgettable day in the jungles of Nyungwe yesterday, have breakfast and prepare for a transfer to yet another captivating trek in Volcanoes National Park.
Be treated to the irresistible views of the countryside, Lake Kivu and rolling hills of Rwanda before arriving the Lodge in the evening for diner and Overnight.
Day 6: Encounter with Mountain Gorillas in the dense jungles of Volcanoes National Park.
This is another memorable day in your safari because you will finally get the chance to see mountain gorillas, not in a film, documentary or magazine but within their natural habitat. Start the day with breakfast then briefing at Kinigi Park Headquarters before being assigned a ranger/guide and habituated gorilla family to trek.
Trekking to search for the Mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park is one of the most fulfilling experiences for most tourists to Africa. Treks last 2-6 hours, including the one hour in the presence of Mountain gorillas and drive back to the Lodge for Lunch.
Depending on how long the gorilla trekking adventure lasts or whether you are still energetic, there are numerous cultural activities to enjoy at the Gorilla Guardian Village (popularly regarded as Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge in or around Volcanoes National Park.
Day 7: Leave Volcanoes National Park for Lake Kivu (Gisenyi).
As you still reflect on the indelible gorilla trekking experience, leave Volcanoes National Park for Lake Kivu area. This will allow you relax on the calm shores of Rwanda’s largest Lake, also shared by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Take a relaxing boat ride to Nyamirundi Island for the cup to cup coffee experience or choose to just sunbathe for the rest of the day. Watch sunset, have dinner and overnight on the shores of Lake Kivu.
Day 8: Water sports and transfer to Kigali.
Have breakfast and engage in the last activity here (preferably biking or kayaking) then transfer to Kigali International Airport or to a Hotel if you are still within the country.
