The 12 days Uganda Safari begins and ends in Kampala but takes you to the magnificent Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Jinja adventure City, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary as well as Murchison falls, Semliki, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks in addition to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation.
Expect to see at least 50% of Uganda’s wildlife species, some of which are Uganda Kobs, lions, mountain gorillas, elephants, bushbucks, buffaloes, leopards, Defassa waterbucks, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, common elands, Rhinos, zebras, Rothschild giraffes, vervet monkeys, Oribis, Topis and many others.
When it comes to bird species, expect diversity of Albertine endemic, forest, water and wetland dwelling bird species during this long safari.
Day 1: Jet into Entebbe International Airport.
You will be received by one of our Company representatives from Entebbe International Airport and drive you to the Hotel or any other place of stay in Kampala City. If you arrive in the morning or afternoon, there will be a city tour organized to some of the popular historical and cultural sites such as Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, Uganda Museum, Kasubi Royal Tombs and the Craft shops along Buganda Road. Drive and check-in at the Hotel in Kampala.
Day 2: Tour Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Uganda Wildlife Education Center.
On this day you will undertake a tour of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Ngamba Island, Lake Victoria. Breakfast at the Hotel in Kampala, drive to the pier near the Uganda Wildlife Education Center and only 10 minutes’ drive from Entebbe Town. Your driver will make sure that you are at the pier before 9:00am for short briefing before embarking on the boat ride (with a motor boat) for 45-60 minutes and reach the Island crossing the Equator en-route. Be welcomed by a team of guides at the Sanctuary, observe the chimpanzees, participate in feeding them and interact with the keepers.
Have lunch and embark on another boat ride to the mainland for a visit to Uganda Wildlife Education Center. Drive back to Kampala to slumber and have dinner at the booked Lodge.
Day 3: Visit Jinja, home to the source of R. Nile and the adventure Capital of East Africa
After breakfast at the place of stay in Kampala, drive to Jinja for a tour of the Source of the Nile River, Bujagali falls and a number of adrenaline-packed activities. Start with whitewater rafting in the morning and in the afternoon after lunch undertake the Boat cruise to the source of the Nile. If time allows, other additional activities to enjoy are horseback rides and bungee jumping.
From these adventurous activities drive back to Kampala for overnight and dinner at the same Hotel, as the previous day.
Day 4: Drive from Kampala to Murchison falls National Park in north-western Uganda
In the morning after breakfast set off from Kampala City to Uganda’s largest National Park in north-western part of the country. Break for Rhino tracking in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary within Nakasongola district and continue with the journey and make another stop at Masindi Town for Lunch.
On arrival at Murchison falls National Park start the 45-60 minutes’ hike to the top of the falls where you will vividly see the mighty Nile river plunge its way with tremendous force through a small 7-meter wide gorge and fall at least 40 meters deep while creating thundering sound. The whole scenery creates jaw-dropping backdrop for photography and later drive back to any of the park’s lodges for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Unbeatable game drive in the Northern banks of the Nile and boat cruise.
Waking up early, you will be served breakfast and straightaway head for a game drive along the northern banks of River Nile where unique savannah woodland-dwelling wildlife species such as Rothschild giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeests, Oribis, Uganda Kobs, lions, Defassa waterbucks, serval cats, leopards, elephants, Hippos and buffaloes can be spotted.
Drive back to the lodge for lunch and at 2:00pm undertake a launch cruise along the Victoria Nile to marvel at large populations of Hippos, Nile crocodiles and antelopes in addition to diversity of wetland and water-dominant bird species. Slumber, unwind and dine at the Lodge as the previous day.
Day 6: Set off from Murchison falls National Park to Fort Portal Town.
Take an early breakfast and set off from Uganda’s oldest National Park and continue to western Uganda for a visit to the Primate Capital of the World-Kibale Forest National Park and Semliki National Park.
This 7-8 hours’ drive will see you drive through the breathtaking Western Rift Valley with numerous bird species that are endemic to the Albertine Rift, spectacular escarpments, rural homesteads and vast banana plantations. Lunch in the beautiful Tourism City of Fort portal, where you will also have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer from Fort Portal Town to Semliki National Park.
Have an early breakfast and with packed Lunch drive to Semliki National Park, where upon arrival undertake a guided tour to the Sempaya hot springs, at the edge of a lush wetland. After a tour of these blazing natural springs, continue to visit the Batwa pygmies at Ntandi Village, adjacent to the verdant Ituri rainforest to learn about their exciting lifestyle and culture.
With the assistance of the Park ranger find a convenient spot to partake of your packed Lunch and continue with the guided walk while heading towards the vehicle. Embark on a drive to any Safari Lodge near or within Kibale Forest National Park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking adventure within Kibale Forest National Park
Be served a delicious breakfast and leave your Safari Lodge for Kanyanchu Visitor Center for briefing on chimpanzee trek that begins at 8:00am. On-foot Chimpanzee treks through the jungles of Kibale are conducted twice a day-morning and afternoon session but not only offer chances of seeing chimpanzees but also other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons and L’Hoests monkeys among others, in addition to variety of bird and butterfly species. Spend time (one hour) in the presence of the chimpanzees and continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park to dine and spend overnight.
Day 9: Exhilarating Game drive within Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Be awakened by the sweet melodies of singing birds and lion roars for breakfast and head out for an exhilarating game drive to be astonished by the vast savannah plains dotted with array of wildlife species. Get to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, Hippos, leopards, spotted hyenas, warthogs, sometimes the African Rock pythons, Uganda Kobs and warthogs.
By 11:00am leave the savannah plains for a drive back to the Lodge for Lunch. Pack your bags and connect to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the gorilla trekking adventure.
Day 10: Ultimate Gorilla Trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your exciting gorilla trekking experience starts with breakfast at the Lodge, followed by converging at the Park Headquarters for registration and briefing from a team of UWA Park rangers who will take you through the simple rules and regulations of trekking, what to expect from the forest and start the trek by 8:00am.
The length of trekking time is unpredictable since mountain gorillas are always on the move but lasts anywhere between one hour and 5 hours. During briefing, you will be informed of the difficulty of trekking that involves ascending and descending steep hills, walking along muddy trails and being caught up in thickets but the excitement of finally seeing the mountain gorillas makes the challenge worthwhile. On finding them, you will again be reminded on how to behave while in their presence and descend back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Transfer to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, proceed for a drive to Lake Bunyonyi while enjoying the views of the Virunga Mountains from a distance, rolling hills and rural homesteads in addition to natives of the area going-about their daily activities.
On arrival have lunch and have a pleasure of riding on a canoe while watching birds. Return back to the shores and be driven to one of the exquisite Safari Lodges/Resorts or Hotels to dine and slumber.
Day 12: Return to Kampala City or Entebbe International Airport
This day marks the end of your long safari and it’s the day you return to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport.
