Explore Uganda wildlife and also visit Zanzibar islands on this tour. Uganda offers you primates trekking both gorilla and chimpanzee trekking plus game viewing experiences and boat cruise. Decide to start with Kibale Forest National Park known for chimpanzee and 12 other primates. Next will be Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited park with big 4 mammals, then to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for gorilla trekking which is the icing on the cake.
On top of this wildlife viewing experience, Zanzibar islands will be a perfect place to relax on its soft sand beaches and also visit some of the historical buildings in Stone town, a UNESCO world heritage site and the capital of Zanzibar.
Day 1: Arrival.
Meet and greet with your guide on arrival at Entebbe international airport Uganda. After check at arrivals, transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.
In the early morning after breakfast, set off via Mubende, with optional stop at Nakayima tree former shrine of the last king of Chwezi dynasty, to Kibale Forest National Park approximately 358 km journey from Entebbe. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge and settle for lunch.
Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk.
You will head to the park visitor center Kanyanchu by 7:00am after breakfast and attend a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. From there you will drive shortly to the trailhead and trek on foot into the forest escorted by armed rangers in search of the chimpanzees. Several chimpanzees are habituated to tolerate the presence of human beings, which allow visitors to experience up close encounters with man’s closest relatives.
Learn about the chimpanzee behavior and social structure from Uganda wildlife authority guides. After 1 hour with chimps, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, go to Bigodi for a nature walk through the swamp. With an experienced local guide who will enlighten you on the wildlife including 200 bird species, some of the 8 species of primates such as blue monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey among others as well as floral species.
This swamp walk covers 4.5 km and could take you about 3 hours to complete and then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
With your packed lunch, transfer from Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth National Park 3-hour drive. Along the way you will see some twin crater lakes, the Rwenzori ranges and stopover at the equator crossing. After the equator, you will drive to Kazinga channel for a boat cruise before you check in at the lodge.
The boat cruise takes you for 3 hours along the shores of Kazinga channel. Lots of hippos and water birds can be seen such as African fish eagle, cormorants, kingfishers, plus elephants and buffaloes. You may also spot Nile crocodiles. After the boat, drive to the lodge with evening game drive for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
5:30 am wake up call and a hot cup of African tea, then go for early morning game drive in Kasenyi plains, the northern game viewing sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. A total of 95 mammals are recorded in this park, and you will be looking for some of them including lion, leopard, hyena, elephant, buffalo, Uganda kobs, hippos & waterbucks. Return to the lodge by 8am for full breakfast. Check out and head for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
The journey is about 5-hour drive to 6 hours running through Ishasha wilderness, famed for its tree climbing lions and rolling hills of Kigezi aka the “Switzerland of Africa”
Other mammals in the area you may spot are elephants, topi, bushbuck and the buffalos here are two breeds, the forest species which come from DR Congo and the savanna buffaloes.
Arrive at the lodge on the edge of Bwindi forest. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking and village walk.
After breakfast go to the visitor center with packed lunch and drinking water and attend the briefing on gorilla rules by ranger guides who will accompany you to the forest in search of the gorillas. The thick forest and steep terrain can be challenging to hike on foot and you’re sure how long the gorilla trek will be. So, you can hire a porter to assist and carry your backpack.
But, the good news is that you will see gorillas and the highlight is to spend 1 hour taking photos and observing how the gentle giants feed and play. Thereafter return to the lodge for lunch.
The afternoon is yours to or relax at the lodge or visit the local community. Experience the village life on the boundary of the park, local housing, farming and craft and souvenir shops. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar.
After breakfast, transfer back to Entebbe international airport and take a flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar main airport, meet and greet with your guide and drive to Stone Town which is half an hour drive away. Check in at the hotel and relax. Lunch and dinner Palace Hotel.
In the evening, you can take a walk down by the main port of Zanzibar also known as Porsche to catch a sunset and pass by beautiful palm trees and historical buildings. Porsche is where the ships to main land Tanzania and other islands dock.
Day 8: Stone Town City Tour.
After breakfast, you will take a sightseeing tour of Stone Town. The capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town has a lot of historical buildings dating back to the 16th and 18th century with an interesting history. You will visit the Highest of wonders (house of wonders) the most famous architectural building, old dispensary, old fort, Freddie Mackie’s house, and end call it a day with a night street food market tour at Forodhani Park also known as Johnny gardens.
Lunch at Lukman restaurant and dinner and at your hotel.
Day 9: Zanzibar Beach.
Today, you will leave Stone town and transfer to Kendwa beach north east of Zanzibar islands. The journey is 2 hours. On arrival check in and relax at the lodge. At Kendwa, the waters are good for swimming and snorkeling. There are also soccer and volley ball games at the beach. Kendwa is also known for its vibrant nightlife.
Dinner and overnight stay Kendwa beach.
Day 10: Departure.
Finally, your 10 days tour ends when you transfer from Kendwa via Spice plantations to Zanzibar airport for your departure flight.
